Kate Smith, J.D
Kate Smith is a talented criminal lawyer with an understanding of all facets of criminal law. She focuses predominantly on the areas of sexual assault, narcotics, and impaired driving (DUI) offences, protecting you and your legal rights in times of need. She is an advocate for those accused of crime, while providing aggressive, compassionate defence.
Her professional mission is to do everything within her power to obtain the best possible outcome for you, even under challenging circumstances. She commits herself to ensuring that allegations do not become convictions.
Kate attended the University of Winnipeg from 2007 – 2009, where her studies focused on Economics and Political Science. She went on to pursue law, earning her Juris Doctor from the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba in 2012. Her accolades include the Neil James MacDonald Memorial Prize for the highest standing in Criminal Law and Procedure (U. of M.) in 2010, and the Board of Regents Entrance Bursary in 2007 (U. of W.). Kate was called to the Manitoba Bar in May of 2013 and is a member in good standing of the Manitoba Bar Association.
During Kate’s legal studies, she assumed a position with Pinx & Company, working under the expertise of Sheldon Pinx, Q.C., one of Canada’s leading defence counsels. She has since transitioned into building her own criminal defence practice.
Kate has appeared before every level of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada, with successful outcomes for her clients. She provides continuous assistance for her clients and to those charged with any type of offence, at every stage of the legal process.
In her past, Kate has provided volunteer assistance at the University of Manitoba’s Legal Aid Center and the Human Rights Commission. In her personal life, she enjoys her horses, travelling, and is passionate about human and animal rights.
